What about 'pass their prime and not as lean as once was' ?

And I just been told that I had to work tomorrow. Sorry sad.gif

I am planning an incurtion (short one most likely - 90 minutes top) into Surrey Hills trail on Friday evening (starting about 1830-1845).
Starting point would be the Youth Hotel Car Park (RH5 6NW)
This starting point avoid pretty much any road use and is just at the finish line the telegraph poles trail as a finale to the ride stupidlyhappy.gif
Anyone interested PM or txt me so that I know not to take off 10s before you show up...

Looks like another bad stretcher.gif at the Gully jumps tonight, I passed there about 2.30-ish and a poor lad was doing an impression of me earlier this year, head in a brace and strapped to a body board. Looked like he must have had a spinal injury as a couple of mins after I passed the air ambulance arrived to assist the first responder and ambulance already on scene.

Looks as if he crashed at exactly the same place as me on the tabletop jump, cannot help but wonder how long it will be before some do-gooder campaigns to have the jumps flattened

I carried on riding until 6-ish and was amazed how many people were out riding with lights, met other riders on the stickler, tank traps, seagull run, Crowthorn Woods and as I arrived back at the car park about 8 or 10 riders were setting off!

At the least they want to ensure he's not moved in case of spinal/neck injury. Instant they were concerned with me it was on the stretcher with neck brace (and then they knocked me out!). Stupidly decided to walk to the car park though. Saved on the air ambulance though biggrin.gif. Looking into spinal injuries since it worries me now how easy it can be to damage spinal nerves.

At some point they're going to go all safety on the place I'm sure.

Managed to bump into a few familiar faces today smile.gif. Swinley bog factor increasing a little. Bike needs clean for a change, but didn't from yesterday's Surrey Hills ride (despite the mud slide downhill runs).

Stickler yellow slime is nasty now, should be left to dry out really without anyone riding it.

Found a bunch of new 'yellow stuff' sections been or being built as you head towards n.e. switchbacks and further on from there, but they don't seem to go anywhere. Beside the existing trails. Didn't check them out thoroughly so maybe they went further than they appeared to. Anyone know what these are?

I managed to sneak out for a couple of hours this afternoon and took in the delights of Swinley stupidlyhappy.gif - almost to myself - yah!! I did the whole nine yards, Stickler, Tank Traps, Rollercoaster, Deerstalker/labyrinth, car crash common to lower star point, Seagul run, bit of Watsons wander then back to the Stickler and finished by doing the whole nine yards in reverse - in total I bumped into 4 other riders in just under 2 hours and 15 miles, which nowadays is almost unheard of!

Great ride slightly tainted by finding some Richard cranium tearing the ass out of Swinley on a trials bike hairout.gif - almost bloody killed me on the Seagul run - yes, this tw@t decided to take on the single track! He didn't seem to stick around for long and appeared to head over towards the military grounds, no idea how he got in but was going balls out everywhere (you could hear him for miles). Thankfully I figured out he was on the seagull run from the noise coming towards me and had enough time to slip off the trail - had I been 100 yds on there would have been nowhere to bail. . . . . . I did wonder why quite a lot of large stones in the hardback had been displaced - I am guessing this tit is the reason for it. . . .

I'll finally be out again (assuming that I don't come down with something in the next week) on Sunday 11th December. I've been getting some commuting miles under my belt but I know that quite a few of the "old" Swinley crew are out of shape so I anticipate to ride at a social pace with frequent stops.

Who's interested? (I'll put it in the calendar).

A tentative yes from me pending authorisation from HWMBO. . . . should have replaced my 36t with a 32t ring up front by then, so hopefully should be a bit quicker!

Hi DrB - must be 3+ years since my first (and last) ride with you at Swinley ! I'm a tentative yes for this (I may be away that weekend, if not I'll be there), it would be good to meet some of the other riders ahead of a Surrey Hills trip I'm happy to organize (over Christmas holidays ?) and also to discuss Pass Portes 2012 with anyone who cares.

Managed to sneak out for a quick 12 mile spin tonight but flip me is it slippery out there!!!! Loads of fallen leaves covering the roots but the trails are very wet - stickler is like riding glue and the XC bit through the forest at the tank traps end of the seagull is slippery as a slippery thing! Watsons Wander has become a mile long bog, difficult to pick a line where you don't find yourself up to your hubs in gooey stuff!

Swapped my single ring on the front from a 36t to a 32t tonight and was hoping to notice an increase in speed but too bloody wet to tell! Much quicker up hills and quicker out of the switchbacks/berms but I have lost a bit top end - went for it in the Labyrinth but managed to slide out on the switchback/climb on a massive root that has become exposed since last weekend so totally screwed my time up. I guess I will have to try to join Dr Bikes ride this weekend so I can give it another go!!!! whistling.gif

Surrey Hills was at Bog Factor 12 today, especially on Leith. Don't know how Swinley is comparing. It'll take me many cleans to shift the mud I think.
