Hi, i have just got into downhill riding, im currently in the navy based in Plymouth, been on a few trails down there but, when i get a long span of time off, i like to go back and see the mrs/go MTBing.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend any areas easily accessible by train from Manchester, preferably not more than 1 hour away on the train.
Iv seen people talking about rivington near chorley, and would like to know what kind of trail is it, the only comparison i have is Gawton (in Plymouth) and Tavistock woods (Tracks such as Corkscrew and crash course)

Also if anyone lives in manchester and has a car big enough to fit their MTB + my Kona entourage i wouldnt mind splitting fuel costs if youd let me jump in with you. I occasionally have interesting things to talk about and what not tongue.gif

Has to be the Peak District. Outstanding riding and quite possibly the best train accessed biking in the UK (eg trains to Eadale). Lots of guide books available, check out 18 Bikes in Hope.
