i will be at CYB on sat morning for a few hours worth of riding and am used to doing the red dragon and the beast but i haven't ridden over the other side since the new visitors centre opened. whats the tarw trail like compared to the red dragon and how long does it take a reasonably fit rider to get round?

If your're only a "reasonably fit" rider I truly must be an "old knacker" think.gif

The Tarw is basically the old Redbull trail, about 20km.Official website states 1.5-3hours,my mate did it in around 1hr 40mins on a good dry day.

My guess would be something in the order of 1hr 30 for a reasonably fit rider, assuming no stops. Gorlech trail at Brechfa has more climbing for a similar distance and I can generally get round that on a steady pace in about 1hr 30..

don't know about any 'red dragon' trail - do you mean Dragon's back..?

If so, I would go for that anyway, unless you have a particular affinity for the Tarw. DB is a good three hour ride and (apart from the ridiculous 'tarmac' surface on the fester & morticia descents), its a really excellent trail.

I think a better ride than The Beast or Dragons Back is to do Tarw followed by the MBR.They add up to around 23 miles & are more interesting than the longer trails, should take around the same time as what it takes you The Beast.
