Bright lights Options

Hi all, newby here. I'm looking for a very bright light suitable for a good couple of hours, but like most of us, on a budget. It would be used on my MTB as well as some overnight forest stuff on my motorcycle. I'm finding the Magicshare 880 advertised at 2000 lumens is a good price (I believe this is brighter that car headlights) so would anyone recommend them or is there better around the £120 mark. There are two ways to go with off road lighting:

1: Cheap as chips. Torch based ‘O’ ring sealed units so cheap the whole light is under £20 and you can treat it as a ‘spare’ replacing it when it goes wrong.

2: Expensive wired kits. Pricey but potentially with spares availability and good support when your unit (almost inevitably) suffers from a crash, the weather or just good old corrosion.

There is finally a middle road however in the form of Smudge at MTB Batteries. I don’t have one of his lights (I’m a torch carrier) he doesn’t pay me to say so but he has offered great support to members of the forum so he gets my vote.

For your budget I'd be looking at2 lights from smudge @£67 ea. One on the helmet and one on the bars. The bars light is great for climbing/road sections on a low setting so as not to blind other riders/road users when you look at them plus it saves helmet juice for the descents. He's got some new lights on the way in but I've no idea of pricing.

If you buy two I'm sure he'll chuck in a headstrap which is great in the carpark after ride.

I have a magicshine MJ-872 on the bars and an MJ-808 on me skid-lid, imho the combo works really well. The 872 offers quite a broad speard of light and has 4 settings, so far I have not needed to use it on more than 75% and the 808 provides a good spotlight beam for lighting up the trail ahead.

Magicshine UK have a sale on at the moment so it might be worth you taking a look. . . .

Thanks chaps - have seen the 2000 lumen one for £99 on Ebay if no-one bids (they aren't) so might be a good option. Will look at Smudge too.
