It's typical timing, I bought a couple of Fat Alberts off Parkerman a few weeks ago. They were a great price but I prefer the "slimmer" Albert version at 2.25" rather than 2.4". Maybe I'll buy some anyway cos at that price one should take advantage of the offer

I would also want to run them tubeless. Maj, Nobby Nics are good for Swinley. Just make sure that you get the tubeless version but TBH I'm not sure what TLA* Schwalbe use for that. I'd also go for 2.25" wide which should be good for all conditions. *Three Letter Acronym -------------------- Dr Bike takes no responsibility for damaged limbs or failed relationships as the result of his advice.

I've been thinking of running the schwalbe 3 tyre system for a while and this makes it easier.

I was not sure if the tyres i bought were tubeless so i wrote to on-one and this is the reply i got:
"All Schwalbe tyres are tubless ready - i.e with the appropriate use of rim strips and sealant (stans no tubes for example) they are not UST tubless standard Hope that clears it up" Well no, does anyone know the difference between ust and tubeless? I thought ust was tubeless! |

UST is tubeless, but, tubeless isn't neccesarily UST- UST is the official standard and means it's airtight without sealant, tubeless ready generally means it needs sealant (like Specialized 2bliss, Bonty TLR).

i bought the nic ust and believed they had stronger side walls.
Read elsewhere people prefer the snakeskin ones. Any experience anyone of the latter? Doing Kielder this year so don't want to lose time and focus by having to fight a tube in. -------------------- Kielder 100 2011

Doing Kielder this year so don't want to lose time and focus by having to fight a tube in. Snakeskin have reinforced sidewalls and I think that the Alpencross have even stronger side walls. I've not used the Nics with snakeskin but have used the snakeskin Alberts and I've never had an issue with them. The sidewalls in the standard Nics are woefully thin, fine for mud and "normal" XC conditions but I'd be worried about using them in rocky terrain. In fact I took my usual Nic of the front and switched it for an older Albert snakeskin prior to doing a trip to Wales last year as I was worried about sidewall rips. For me the stronger sidewall maked the carcass a bit stiffer and so less prone to "squirming" particularly if you run them with lower pressures, which is a good thing. If you're not sure what snakeskins is, it's a criss-cross reinforcing on the sidewall, you can kind of see it on this photo.
