Hi folks!
Some of you might have seen some posts from a member whose words and grammar sound a bit strange. "Smells like a german accent" you assume while having a short look on the left side of the post, where your guess is confirmed. That's me! Now I would like to give you some reasons, why a german rider takes part in a British Forum. First of all, of course, I am very interested in mountainbiking for many many years. And then I am really interested in your country with its inhabitants and landscapes, without ever being there. Even though I am a deep-rooted-black-forest-native, there is a kind of affinity to Britain. Perhaps it's the fancy humor, the great history, Prince Charles *joking* or whatever else. I do not really know. And finally I am interested in improving my English. E.g. I have some problems with the prepositions, the sequence of tenses and so on. And you all speak/write common English like the man in the street does, I suppose. So be fond of me Big Cheers www.northwoodcycling.com www.mtb-news.de |

Hi Everflow and welcome.
I have noticed a few of your photos in the Gallery. Don't worry about your English, it seems a lot better than some of the others on here Of course if you ever do make it over here maybe we can meet for a ride... Bad language (swearwords) is best avoided, as we try to keep this forum family friendly. Welcome again... Mark F -------------------- |

Hi and welcome, what are the ride like near you, I would imagine there will be some excellent trails in the Black Forest and of course the Alps on your doorstep. Perhaps you could act as a guide to any of us visiting Brits should we choose to visit.
Shame your Website on your profile does not have an english version. |

In Germany the swearwords are used more often but aren't meant as tough as it might sound for you. It's rather usual. But it's surely my meaning as well, trying to keep conversation family friendly! Big cheers |

Perhaps you could act as a guide to any of us visiting Brits should we choose to visit. Thank you adydow! Yes, there are some good trails! But the routes and trails I've seen on the pics and vids on here seem more juicy and scenic! And you have handbuilt trails. But I am really happy about the spot here. But since last week my bike sleeps the winter sleep and I'm on the ski run now! I love it! Shame your Website on your profile does not have an english version. You cannot read german? Shame on YOU! ;-) Unfortunaltely we have no British Members, only french who speak german. What would you like to know? |

I have been looking at some of the pics and video's of the rides you have done, would be nice to of read about them, I am ashamed to say I am one of those igronnant Brits stuck on our island and not bothering to learn any other languages, I also live in Wales and cannot speak Welsh either.

Well, I was forced to study German for 2yrs at school.
So, let me see what use it was.... Guten tag, Herr Everflow! Ich heisse Bazza. Eine zimmer fur zwei nact, bitte. Funf grosse bier, bitte. Useless!! I know! Welcome to our little forum. If I may be so bold, I suspect you aren't really German, as you have a sense of humour!! Your English is better than my German. So, don't worry. -------------------- NB: It's unlikely I'll see your reply. So, please PM me if you need a response.

I've been enjoying the videos too.
There are some truly amazing trails around here but not many of them are on my doorstep, I drive an average of around two to three hours each way to reach them. You ski in the Winter and bike in the Summer? We are so jealous we're beginning to go off you! -------------------- Get proper instruction www.mountainbikeinstruction.co.uk

I have also noticed your rides seem to consist of mainly a singletrack straight run from A to B not a whole loop back to near or where you started from. am I missing something or is there a reason for this.

Nono, that's really o.k. 'cause the whole world knows english (at least a few words). So why learning difficult languages that only the natives speak? Well, I was forced to study German for 2yrs at school. So, let me see what use it was.... Guten tag, Herr Everflow! Ich heisse Bazza. Eine zimmer fur zwei nact, bitte. Funf grosse bier, bitte. Useless!! I know! ...forced by torture? Welcome to our little forum. If I may be so bold, I suspect you aren't really German, as you have a sense of humour!! Your English is better than my German. So, don't worry. Why do the Britains think that the germans have no sense of humour????? Besides you, we have the 2nd best humour in the world. Me and some friends grew up by watching the fantastic "Monty Python's Flying Circus" all the time. By the way, the title of this thread here is stolen from them... |

You ski in the Winter and bike in the Summer? We are so jealous we're beginning to go off you! Hi Gareth! 2-3 hours, that's a real long way! 95% of my rides begin on my doorstep. This is very comfortable. But they are not as juicy as yours! The great spots besides here are the Alps (3 hours) and the Palatinate (2 hours). Or the Lake Garda (7 hours) for holydays. Or Great Britain (20 hours) ;-) If there is enough snow, I'm skiing in winter. But cross-country skiing, the skating style, not downhill skiing. I like this variety in sports. In spring you are very motivated for biking. Come and see! I have also noticed your rides seem to consist of mainly a singletrack straight run from A to B not a whole loop back to near or where you started from. am I missing something or is there a reason for this. Hi adydow! You are absolutely right! Until now all readers/members of our site were locals. And we want every local to give away his secret tracks. Then everyone can insert this new track into his "private loop" if he want so. Otherwise the local is organizing and guiding a whole loop in his "private" area for the others. Our "district" is the northern part of the Black Forest, we call it "Northwood". That's the background and the intention of our site: to built up a network among local riders. |

Good morning! How do you do?
Your english is very good so far, just keep practising. Shouldn't be too hard when you're talking about something you love. Make yourself at home. -------------------- WARNING: May contain traces of absolute bo11ocks.

Make yourself at home. Thank you all for the hearty welcome! ... Shouldn't be too hard when you're talking about something you love. ... I do not really know the meaning of this phrase. Could you please explain...sorry... Was it too enthusiastic or kind of braggy? |

Thank you all for the hearty welcome! I do not really know the meaning of this phrase. Could you please explain...sorry... Was it too enthusiastic or kind of braggy? I meant that it shouldn't be too hard to practice your English here (talking about bikes) given that you like biking so much. I wrote that at four in the morning and to be honest I could have phrased it better. -------------------- WARNING: May contain traces of absolute bo11ocks.

You ski in the Winter and bike in the Summer? We are so jealous we're beginning to go off you! Now I'm the one who is looking up to you jealously! Every day there is a mixture of sleet, snow, freezing and unfreezing here. So no chance to do anything out there. A bit running that's all. Too little snow for skiing but too much and too "crusty" for biking. Now you all can enjoy the advantage of the British atlantic climate with its mild winters! Go on riding! |
