I am sooooo pleased that I managed to get some riding in on Friday because today is c*$p, c*$p, c*$p down here. Bloody windy and very heavy rain, the trails are going to be pretty gloopy next week.
Bring back the cold and clear weather!!!! Having said that, not much posting going on here today, so maybe its just me sitting in my own little weather system........ -------------------- WD40 is for spraying onto things that you think you should be performing some kind of maintenance on but have no clue where to start or what to do.

Friday was properly ick for me, but it cleared up on saturday so I could do some riding (though it was pretty muddy (A couple of times when my tyres slipped, I could look at the mud and see the gouges from the side knobs!), very windy and puddly). Today, really strong gusty winds and rain. Glad I was riding saturday
So, who's glad they're riding today? -------------------- "Say something that you know they might attack you for"

I suppose there is some good things about riding in light gloop (but not the stuff that stops you in your tracks or in the wind and rain!) I'm pretty sure it improves your balancing abilities and how to control the bike when it suddenly tries to disappear from under you.
One of my biggest problems is that I haven't managed to disconnect the brake when you panic reaction in my brain which can be disasterous on gloop downhills. The bad side is that the trails are getting knackered and in busy areas like Leith and Holmbury Hill where I was on Friday this is going to increase the pressure on reducing mountain biking in the area. It's also knackering my brake pads because its a sandly gloop round here, next purchase is going to be some sintered pads for my Juicy's!! -------------------- WD40 is for spraying onto things that you think you should be performing some kind of maintenance on but have no clue where to start or what to do.

was up at NyA earlier today. the rain stopped about 10am, so though I would give it a go seeing as I was stuck indoors with a cold last weekend.
not muddy, but very wet & windy. a lot of the single track had running surface water - a bit like riding in a stream. climbing an unsheltered forest fireroad into a 30kt headwind is no fun, I can tell you. the car park was near on deserted, so I felt proper hardcore.. |

Rain has stopped here now although still pretty windy, could go out for a ride I suppose, but can't summon up the energy............
..........Plus it would mean leaving the baby (as wife is out xmas shopping) which is probably not a good idea......... Only joking, of course I would not consider that!!! -------------------- WD40 is for spraying onto things that you think you should be performing some kind of maintenance on but have no clue where to start or what to do.

... It's also knackering my brake pads because its a sandly gloop round here, next purchase is going to be some sintered pads for my Juicy's!! Just a subtle hint: the sintered pads could cause very awful squeaking and screaming! Espacially the original Avids. But perhaps it depends on how stiff the fork and the chainstay is. In my case I finally substituted the sintered pads for organic ones and the screaming has disappeared... |

I'd heard this before about the noise you can get from sintered pads, but if it saves me the money on replacing pads after every few rides in harsh conditions it is probably worth putting up with in the winter.
Having said this it does seem to depend on what the conditions are like where you are cycling and even sintered's will wear in rapidly in certain areas. See this other thread http://www.mtbbritain.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=8007 -------------------- WD40 is for spraying onto things that you think you should be performing some kind of maintenance on but have no clue where to start or what to do.

Mine were like bricks! |
