I have this light.
It came up as £39 pound from deal extreme. It is better bar light than a P7 torch. I have been using this every day up until today (clocks changed so back to lighter mornings) Works brilliantly combined with a p7 for a helmet light. It will blind people and animals! It has 3+ hr at full beam. Kerr |

QUOTE It is better bar light than a P7 torch. QUOTE Why? I'm guessing the long runtime on high. I'm not a subscriber to this idea myself but if I was doing long singletrack type rides I might feel the need of the full beam full-time approach. What I don't like are expensive (sorry but compared to a £40 MTE P7, with a second for another £20 it's a lot more) systems with batteries that can't be cheaply replaced and I hate wired connections. Self contained units are the way ahead. -------------------- Get proper instruction www.mountainbikeinstruction.co.uk

Why? Its more a fill than a spot. The beam is less concentrated in the middle. You can see this clearly if you ride in some mist or fog. The p7 looks like a light sabre. The overall beam is about the same diameter but much less of a round spot in the middle. Ideal for flood. But thats just the design of the reflector (its a bit bigger and tapers more) the best bit is the light is also brighter. 4 x 18650 drop slightly less under load compared to one 18650. This is quite noticeable next to a regular p7. If I get some time Ill do some beam shots. Edit. Didnt see the second post from Gareth. This cost me £39. So actually ended up the same as complete set of P7. The batteries are just 4 18650s wired togther. Maplin do the packs. Kerr |

I think that's the first time anyone has ever called a P7 a lightsaber

£39 is really good for that, I still hold with my comment about cables but with the replaceable battery it's really an interesting light.
No P7 I've seen is a 'Light Sabre', they're usually a flood or 'mid flood' which is where the MTE P7 is in the spectrum. One reason I really like the MTE torch is that another £20 gets you a helmet mounted light and that's a combination which is almost impossible to beat with bar mounted alone. Still if you really need high all the time I'd be happy to splash £39 too. -------------------- Get proper instruction www.mountainbikeinstruction.co.uk

My order took a total of 4 weeks to arrive
Sometimes watching the order status change is like watching paint dry! On a positive note the company making the lights seem very good at taking on user feedback and improving the product. Also if you have the 'bike' light on order - it may well come in a 5 mode format as I believe they are doing that now. Overall it will be worth the wait (normally ! ) |

Well my MTE P7 finally came the other day and its bloody brill
Well it is on the back garden anyway the helmet as well. Thinking of digging out my mini maglite for my helmet, should save me a bit of cash. Got torch, charger, 4 sub stations, helmet mount & handle bar mount all for £40.......see Gareth for details |

Some of my mates have just taken a delivery of the deal extreme lights (they took a while too). I'm looking forward to checking them out. although I have a very good HID at the price they are at I might get one as a back up / boost. I'll mount it on the bars to go with the HID on my helmet mount.
Don't need it as my HID copes with full beam for a full ride but they are cheap.... and it'd be handy for the Christmas sherry run! I'm not a subscriber to this idea myself but if I was doing long singletrack type rides I might feel the need of the full beam full-time approach. As much singletrack as possible crammed into a night ride is the order for me so its always been full power ahead. and I hate wired connections. Self contained units are the way ahead. Not if you prefer a helmet mount as I do.. less weight on your bonce the better. Also when helmet mounted the battery goes in your Camelbak with a short cable behind your neck so no real issues. -------------------- Jaws was never my scene and I don't like Star Wars

My P7 arrived all ship shape in about 2 weeks. The Fenix Flashlight Mount ? 4 weeks and counting, 2 sent and still nothing delivered. I've given up and I'll be requesting a refund. This is a pity as I'll have to bodge it to the handlebars as I have a Exposure Joystick Maxx on the helmet. QUOTE Not if you prefer a helmet mount as I do.. less weight on your bonce the better. Also when helmet mounted the battery goes in your Camelbak with a short cable behind your neck so no real issues. I've got to agree with Mad Pierre. Tried the P7 on my head; its a lot heavier than my joystick. I'd probably get used to the extra weight but would prefer it on the bars. I'll probably buy a 90 degree velcro strap, unless anyone's got any other suggestions? -------------------- There do appear to be some hills south of the Trent...

QUOTE Not if you prefer a helmet mount as I do.. less weight on your bonce the better. Also when helmet mounted the battery goes in your Camelbak with a short cable behind your neck so no real issues. An MTE P7 is light enough to be helmet mounted without tying you to your camelbak but it only runs for an hour on high, so if that's your issue I can see where you're coming from. Plenty of riders can string together a long 'rough off-road' route, I always find I'm riding lots of road or fire road climbs where you just don't need high. I've still got my heavy HID but even if it had a smaller, lighter battery I would still prefer self contained units to cabled ones. Another MTE plus is that you can (I know you kind of need to!) carry spare batteries. If something has gone wrong with the charging of a single light it can spoil your ride, multiple P7's give you head and bar options plus no chance of running out of juice. You could of course go with two of those wired units if you so wish. QUOTE I'll probably buy a 90 degree velcro strap, unless anyone's got any other suggestions? Given the problem with sourcing a Fenix mount I'd have a go with the velcro straps (Not one of the inline ones from Dealextreme as these are no good for 90 degree bar mounting). Because you should be able to run your light close to the stem it shouldn't really need rotating laterally anyway. Let us know if it turns out to be secure enough to prevent wobbles. In the meantime any old bar clamp and a velcro strap or zip ties can be tried. -------------------- Get proper instruction www.mountainbikeinstruction.co.uk
