About 15 mins after we discovered him the group he was riding with realised he was missing and returned! That's not very impressive. If you're going to ride in a group to my mind there's a responsibility to make sure that the group look out for each other and regularly check that the group is all together. Slowed me down for the rest of the day I have to admit! I have lost count of the number of times I have ridden Swinley solo in the evening and clocked up decent speed on some of the descents, never really thought about what would happen if I wiped out on one of the trails that walkers/dog walkers don't use. . . . When I first started riding MTB I used to ride alone a lot, but since I've been riding at Swinley I've only been there alone once. I know that if I do ride alone I take much fewer risks. -------------------- Dr Bike takes no responsibility for damaged limbs or failed relationships as the result of his advice.

Great ride Saturday! Nice to see some new and old faces.
Im glad everyone is ok. I hope the guy who fell on the rollercoaster heals quick. I DONT ride on my own in the evenings any more. A few years ago I had to crawl back to the car with a broken shoulder and since then I have never ridden on my own at quite times in Swinley. I do occasionally ride at peak times at the weekend on my own. But I stick to busy areas or easier tracks. I avoid technical stuff unless the area is busy, like the corkscrew etc. kerr |

Darn surf control at work so will take a look later. As for the riding alone discussion it is something that has crossed my mind many times. I do ride alone a fair bit because many of the opportunities I get to ride are spur of the moment (it seems if I plan anything too much it never happens these days!) I have even done a fair bit of night riding on my own although not during last winter. I did come off badly on a night ride in Holmbury last year and although no real damage was done to me or the bike it has made me think it through a bit more. It also seems that nasty incidents have beset many of the regulars over the last year or so, some of which could have turned out very bad if it had happened on a solo ride. -------------------- WD40 is for spraying onto things that you think you should be performing some kind of maintenance on but have no clue where to start or what to do.

Thanks for looking after the guy at the bottom of the rollercoster. He ended up in A&E for 5 hours with two suspected chipped vertebrae Freaky as that's the same as me. T6 and 7 fractured. I assume it wasn't me at the bottom of rollercoster (have to say I have no memory of where my spill was!) Was Saturday evening through to Monday in IC also. Got loads of puncture wounds from all the stuff they stuck in me. Anyway, have been talking on BR about it making sense to carry some details with us in case of a bad smash. Enough to identify you, some contact details for relatives, and anything of relevance to the ambulance and A&E crews as with me they had to dig around a bit to find some contact details for my parents so they could ask them if I was allergic to anything and so on. They didn't even know I had contacts in until they spoke to my parents. Could be good to set up a system to swap details, or have a database of contact and emergency info. Maybe to post when we're off on our own also. Needs to be secure though but easy enough for groups like us to use. Maybe option to print off a card of contact info or something. -------------------- |

hope everyone hurting gets better soon!
remember these handy hints if you're lost/hurt when out alone: call 112 not 999 as (according to some training i had last week) the emergency services can track/find you much better when calling from a mobile on the 112 number. save some numbers in your phone as "ICE - wife", "ICE - parents" or something. ICE standing for 'in case of emergency' the services are pretty good at checking mobiles for ICE numbers if its not a fancy smart phone that needs a specific code to unlock. if you take a wallet with you then put a piece of paper in your wallet with some emergency contact details, next of kin for example. -------------------- |

Seems a one up on Vespa1871's spill on the same day. Mine is a case of I have no knowledge of the actual incident or much anything until I woke up in Frimley ICU on Monday!. Me and Bungalistic had been messing about the Labyrinth area most of Saturday afternoon, and I was practising jumps a little, then we were heading back and went off the DH-illy bit to the right of the big climb up to top. ... and my memory stops there! Apparently there were some drops worth trying and I tried one, and ended up a right mess. I'm guessing got the weight entirely wrong and went over the bars, as I smashed up the face, got concussion and fractured a couple of vertebrae. Out of ICU end of Monday I think, and finally released from hospital on Friday. Now taking it easy for a couple of weeks. 6 or so estimated to repair the vertebrae but apparently they're fairly stably damaged so should repair well. Head is still dizzy. Full credit to Bungalistic who helped me out (I apparently walked all the way back to Go Ape with him in a concussed state and I have no memory of that), whoever it was at Go Ape that helped out also apparently, and of course the ambulance guys and definitely impressed with the Frimley Park Hospital folk. And all this after I was having a dig at the kids who keep needing ambulances and airlifts from Swinley Anyone who saw the incident or knows of what happened, I'd love to hear from by the way! If you've got it on video, all the better Ouch..! Seems like its been a bit of week for accidents, hope you feel better soon |

So do I, but where is the trail that you call the rollercoaster?? Some call it Tobogan run. From the reservoir at the top of Surrey Hill start heading down towards the wall (keeping the reservoir on your right) After 100m or so turn sharp right, up over the bank then follow the edge of the reservoir. First of all you'll come to the pump section then on turning left at the end of the pumps you're on to rollercoaster that takes you all the way down to Wishmoor Cross. -------------------- Dr Bike takes no responsibility for damaged limbs or failed relationships as the result of his advice.

If you're going to do a job, may as well do it properly! Is that the new wheel too? Is the new bike here yet? Rim ordered Should be in tomorrow and on the bike as soon as I learn to build a wheel ;-) Bike is not ordered as yet but will be in the next 10 days Thing is that it is so successfully that the best you can get is £5 off and I never buy anything with qt least 10% off retail Just need to twist some arms... -------------------- Lapierre Zesty 514 2011
