Hi,
I am fairly new to the area and I ride the Wrekin fairly frequently(wife and kids permitting...) and I was just wondering if anybody knew of any other routes down from the top. My normal ride is to use the main track all the way to the trig point and straight over down the rocky chute, decend the steep rooty section through the trees, turn right then follow the track all the way back via the rifle range. I also ride the loop turning left just before the cafe and follow all the way round to the rifle range again.....and again.... I did ride the Wrekin about 5 years ago and can remember there was a downhill run starting from the woods on the right hand side just after the last long steep climb, but sadly this now seems to have vanished... Any help would be very much appreciated. Fairfax |

like yourself i quote "..I ride the Wrekin fairly frequently(wife and kids permitting...) " lol
i know a few different ways down from the top. When your at the trig point as you look back at the main path you have just climbed there are trees on the left. follow the singletrack through the trees past the back of the station then back on to the main path. stay to the left as you approach decent you should see a small track which will take you down a small steep decent followed by another. Stay in the trees until you come out on to the open area at the bottom of the third climb (the one everyone i know hates, with the concrete at the top). As you come out the trees take a tight left and you will see a small hole in the trees. Follow this down about 100 metres then the path will take a left. not always seen but its there then follw the path down. it will bring you out on the path that runs around the centre of the wrekin and back to the rifle range. If you fancy meeting up then i coiuld show you if my directions are useless lol i live in Telford so i am local Where else do ride in the area? |

I normally ride first thing on a saturday morning, as its the only time I am able to get away... I also have ridden down at the long mynd and I am also looking at having a go at haughmond hill near shrewsbury. Unfortunately I work away from home mid-week, so evening rides are out of the question. Have you ridden haughmond hill at all. Any other ideas of places to ride?

What a scream, you have got to do it. got down to the farm with the biggest grin on my face ever. brill, well worth it. Started at Carding Mill and followed the the track all the way upto Pole Bank (the trig point) and then down to the gliding club, then just follow the track (footpath... Not going to be able to get back upto the wrekin until next as I have had my mountain bike fix this week (as the wife tells me... |
