Clearly some seriously dedicated riders here, but how about outside riding?

My first "love" is surfing - Used to compete, judge, be sponsored, be a lifeguard, etc but now just do it for fun.

Also quite into running (first 10k trail race completed a month ago), do home weights two or three times a week and waterski/wakeboard quite often behind our new speedboat (little boat with a 60).

Also try, and fail, to sail!
Used to do a lot of martial arts (and competed in kickboxing) but since moving "back" to Cornwall from Bristol, I've not managed to find a good club so just practise alone (weirdo!)

Well in between family, work, riding and helping out with the Explorer Scouts I do a bit of scuba diving, nothing to serious as I only got my open water last year but enjoy it all the same. It has taken a knock though lately with all the crap weather we been having so only inland diving done this year. Still, gives me more time on me bike so not all that bad smile.gif

Not that you can call it a hobby but my skiing holiday is the top priority of the year.

My other interest at home is Koi keeping, I only have a 6000 litre pond at the moment and 12 Koi, but I plan to upgrade once I have moved house sometime in the future. So I seem to get drawn to expensive hobbies but what nicer way to relax after a long ride, by sitting next to my pond with a nice cold one.

Al - Expensive indeed!

Love skiing (been about half a dozen times) but I can sort of take it or leave it.
Know a whole load of people who do a season every year in Alpe d'Huez - my sister did two.
Spotted some big Koi at our local garden centre - £800+ for a decent sized one! Too many herons this way to risk having any.

Another "hobby" is looking after our garden - A rather "industrial" task!
Now looking a lot better than in these pics after some serious strimming and the purchase of a rather heavy duty mower - Now have about 1/4 of an acre of decent lawn for imminent baby to play on.

And now:

Our main hobby is thrashing our cars around various circuits. Mainly non-competitive events like track days. We have one dedicated track car and one which is currently a daily drive, but goes out on track from time to time.
I do all the preparation/maintenance work to the cars and mechanic/fix them when we break them.

The stripped out Track N/Ail at Anglesey (old circuit last year)

The Supercharged daily drive at Anglesey (new circuit last month)

We recently found out a number of us who regularly track our cars are also into mtb too (we even have a mtb forum on our club forums as of two weeks ago) biggrin.gif

In no particular order....

Bike riding - Living in Herts, as I do, I don't get to the hills much. But, I still try to get out on the bike as much as poss, even if only for blasts around the canal towpaths/etc. My preference would be to do 50miles/week.
Snowboarding - back to Banff (again) this coming Winter. Woot!
Beer/boozing.
Gaming (OAPs for PS2/PS3/PSP, and FRAG for 360) - gamertags are: 'bazza' for PS, and 'OAPbazza' for Live).
Gadgets - I have more than I care to admit.
Movies/videos.

I wish I could add 'wimmin'. But, I'm useless with them. So, it's more of a spectator sport.

And the one think I regret more than anything....
overtime @ work sad.gif
however, it sure does pay for a lot of 'stuff'!! biggrin.gif

I started the MTB thing because my running obsession was causing too many stress fractures, but in the winter, I still do a fair amount as cross training. I love distance stuff, but unfortunately, I wasn't born with a sleek runners body and can't put up the miles without damage.

I also XC ski, mostly back country stuff, occasionally multi-day hut trips.

I've also done a fair amount of backpacking in my days. Lately I don't seem to find the time with all the cycling I do, but as I've tapered off on the number of races per summer I'm doing, I'm finding the itch coming back. My 10 mile hike two weekends ago certainly added to that desire.

I started getting into metal milling over the winter in my desire to build some new and better bike lights. I could really see myself getting even more into it, but I'd need a garage. I can only carry a 200# mill into my shed. The mill I'd like to own would take a forklift to move and a garage to put it in.

Road cycling started as a training tool and still mostly is, but I really do love my time just cruising on the road, where a 70 or 80 mile day feels just about right on the weekends.

I'm also a professional part-time student. I love going to college. I'm 40 years old and I've been in school at least part time for probably 16 out of the last 22 years. I love to learn, I love to challenge my own ideas, I love looking at things from different perspectives, and I love cute college girls running around campus in the springtime. icon_redface.gif

I watch too much TV. The Discovery Channel, History Channel, National Geographic Channel, and the Learning Channel have worn groves on my TV remote. I wish I could enjoy reading as much and feel less guilty, but I just love to lay on the couch after a long ride and veg with the Tivo at my command (burning through about eight hours of shows in a three hour sitting... no ADD here icon_redface.gif ).

Myself I used to be heavily into weights, as some of you may have guessed. Used to be Rugby aswell, but injury makes me watch it now instead. Progressed to doing up cars, but I have always been into mountaineering and cycling in one form or another and mtb'ing takes up the majority of my free time now.

Like Al my first love is snow, and for me it's boarding:

All I can say is that I wish I was as good on a bike as I am on a board. biggrin.gif

and I have been known to set the slopes alive with my snow fashion:

As you can see, with that kind of wear you can't help but attract the babes like moths to a luminous yellow and green flame.

That aside I have an allotment to keep me busy during the week although this year has been a bit too wet for veggies.

Another car track day goer here whistling.gif Matteeboy will know this from club gti agree.gif

Have had my trusty old mk2 Golf for years and it's been evolved over time into a stripped out, roll caged VR6 200+ bhp engined track biased hatch..

Not been out in it much this year due to an imminent house move ( ie next week ) wacko.gif

As you can see, the reg plate had something to do with my online username.

Search 'gvkmotorsport' on you tube for some in car videos.

Twinshock motocross smile.gif

I've been involved with MX for many years, but these days, my main hobby is restoring & racing twinshockers, ie dirt bikes with twin rear shockers, typically manufactured before 1981. I've owned and restored quite a few over the last few years and you never get back what you spend....

well i am knocking on a bit

when i was young i did white water slalom but it took too much time and my girl wasnt happy so i said i would take up cycling instead.

Spent 10 years road cycling with the odd race or 2 thrown in for good measure. married the girl rolleyes.gif then had a major accident while training, knocked road racing on the head cause i had enough and this year started the safer option of MTB mellow.gif

when i dont ride i play computer games www.mercs.eu is my home stupidlyhappy.gif

other than that i tinker with veggies, got some good spuds this year whistling.gif and i also enjoy being a devoted daddy.

icon_redface.gif Errrm, guess I should add that to my list, too. If the Garmin Edge 305 wasn't enough of a gadget, I just upgraded cell phones from a Blackberry 6300 series to the new 8800. I thought my old blackberry was addictive. Now I have color internet (could browse www.Fark.com all day long while standing in line for lunch), google maps with satellite views (I can type in bagel and it shows me the closest 10 bagel shops with driving directions and the phone number to the business), I can store 3-4 full length DVDs on in and watch in Windows Media Player, oh, plus I can put my mp3s on it and use it as my iPod (full support for stereo bluetooth headphones will be in software version 4.2.2, so, yippie, no more wires!), oh, yeah, it also works for e-mail and as a phone, too... I'm kind of wondering how I ever lived without this thing. whistling.gif

What an interesting bunch MTB Britain-ers are biggrin.gif

Me, I used to be a studio technician so am in to all things musical - recording, guitars, drums - anything I can make a noise with. It's taking a bit of a back seat at the moment as I've got the family thing going on but when the nippers are at school I might get back into it.

Those track days look fun. If only all my spare cash didn't go on biking.....
