first of all i should say i am delighted with the light this torch puts out, i am dissapointed by its build quality though. for a while now it has been flashing from full beam down to dip on its own, got that sorted 3 days ago by taking it apart and tightening up the tail switch which was loose. then this evening i am out again when it cut out totally, no sign of battery power dropping at all, changed batteries and still no light from torch (good thing the moonlight ws enough to get me home)
on arriving home i put both batteries in charger and both were fully charged in 5 mins so it wasnt batteries that is causing problem. i took the tailcap apart again and reassembled it, insert a battery and hey presto its working again. does anyone else have problems with a dodgy switch?

Finally, justified!!!!

Frankly, I'm shocked this is the first switch to have failed. Your running 2 to 3A through the switches, and it's tricky to get a switch rated that high- the rating should be on the back of the switch if you disassemble the tailcap, I'm guessing it'll be a 1.5A switch, or perhaps even lower.

Cleaning the contacts might help (literally, give everything a good wipe with a piece of kitchen towel so it all shines), but I suspect the switch is on the way out. You may be able to get another switch from the customer service dpt. of DX, or you could have a go at fitting a replacement, such as this or this (I think this is the same as the second switch, but just with gold plated contacts/spring, but it's hard to be sure)

was out again tonight for another 2hr bash, no problems at all now.
i took the switch apart again and there is no rating that i can see on the switch, though it does look like the second one you recommended. i will keep an eye on it and report back if it does fail again

Dealextreme's warranty people are actually surprisingly good, so if it does fail you should be able to get a replacement quite easily.
