Does any one use an Ultrasonic Cleaner for chains and other parts?

Im looking to make my life easier and scrubbing a chain for 20 mins after a muddy ride is not fun.

do they work? what else do you use them for and do they save time.

I got one from Aldi last year. I filled it with erm, well something they say not to use (mild industrial cleaner / degreaser) they recommend water and washing up liquid but a good inbetween solution (no pun intended) might be dishwashing tablets.

Yes it worked finf for chains and cassettes but I had to "cook" the cassette by flipping it over half way. It's mad how musch stuff is left in the bowl after cleaning!

I've been meaning to ask this, been thinking about getting one for MTB purposes.
Rod: Thanks for the reply.

Any recommendations on models/sizes/costs? Or is it as simple as: as big as you can afford/source?

Been toying with this idea for ages, there is a good offer on the one I have my eye on Ultra 7000 at Maplin £25. It has been seen as low as £20 on Aldi special. I have heard that these really get all the oil out of your chain so you need to make sure you get it oiled again properly and yes you need to turn the chain over once so it's not faff free. mellow.gif

There was a good discussion on this a while back but I can't seem to find it, Mad Pierre was the expert as I recall.

I bought one of them and dropped a chain in with just hot water, did two 5 min cycles it was still dirty add some washing up liquid and gave it another 2 x 5 min cycles it was still dirty sad.gif.

i took another chain to work and gave it a blast with a 9 bar steam lance and it was spotless which is was i was expecting from the ultrasonic II'meaner.

Im going to try the cleaner degrease degreaser in and see how that goes.

Check out www.Ultrakleensports.com

A few bike shops use them with a biodegradable degreaser diluted with water.

DON'T use SOLVENT or ALKALINE (muc off) based cleaners

In Aldi this week if anyone wants one

Whats wrong with white spirts and a plastic jar? Might try a steamer though on a cassette.
