hats off to these lads riding choppers coast to coast for a good cause worship.gif worship.gif .i was about 10 years old when these bikes first appeared in the 70's. i never owned one but was very jealous of a few mates who had these super cool looking bikes. but they were an abolute killer to ride up any hill which theres plenty of in sheffield...........they weighed about 3/4 of a ton.good luck on the climbs lads biggrin.gif worship.gif

awesome guys and so lucky too , My sister won a chopper bike in a kellogs cornflake packet compatition,

i was allowed to look at the bike but not ever allowed a bike ride on it , angry.gif

I was lucky enough to get a second hand chopper as a kid. My dad stripped it down and re-sprayed it.


Oh how I remember when those sturmey archer gears regularly slipped resulting in pre-wedding tackle impact with that conveniently positioned gear stick!! dizzy.gif

Never owned a raleigh chopper, but had a bike with sturmey archer gears...............................its a wonder I have been able to father 2 children dizzy.gif

yes i see the H&S design of the newer version which came out a few years ago has done away with the knacker splitting gear lever.also the long double seat, probs to stop you doing something stupid like giving your mate a 'backy'.still love the look of em tho.*sighs while still wishing i had one all those years ago*.

We used to turn the bars 180degrees on our choppers and they just wheelied like you've never known worship.gif Choppers/Commandos and grifters were the daddies back in the day.......until this bad boy came along.

you see i thought i was lucky when i got my first bike which was a drop handlebar converted with cowhorn handlebars,which were wider than the bike was long laugh.gif had loooooooads of fun on it tho riding in't woods and cycle speedway on the all weather surface at the back of our house.........think i paid £2 for it.
