Weather looks good for Sunday rolleyes.gif

Kerr, are you going to arrange a ride for Sunday too???
marcliam
Change of plan on my side... I've got to get a job done prior to our new stove being installed so i'm going to sort that tommorow plus take it a bit easy in the morning. May join you for a Sunday morning ride or may just stay local but it would be good to catch up with you lot again though....

marcliam
Sorry to hear that Kerr...

I'll be there for a bit of a pootle, may need to get away a bit sharpish as I have a ton of stuff to do in the afternoon. See whoevers coming there...
mbElf
Tim has a problem with his gears - so he won't be coming but I'll be there are 8.45 am.

Its going to really sunny sun.gif

See you in the morning.

Cheers, Maj and Marc, had a good ride this morning - quite the intrepid explorers, eh? When I thought about it I could have probably gone out again for another couple of hours. Dunno why, but today wasn't supremely tiring and it wasn't for a lack of climbing either - most strange.

Maj, stop doing so many spinning classes (maybe dump the Friday class) and you'll probably notice a huge difference at the weekends. Just invite that girl out for a drink instead. rolleyes.gif
mbElf
Really enjoyed it today - not sure where we went to but loved it. Weather was fantastic and great company - what could one ask for?

Max, I think you are right about the spinning - i do find them particularly hard and perhaps i should cut down on them. 3 times a week is too much . I definitely need to sort my diet out and cut out he crap that i eat. One thing I must add that compared to about six weeks ago your fitness has really improved and you don't seem to fall over anymore - well not as much. rolleyes.gif

What are the plans for next weekend? Keep in mind that Sunday 21st June is fathers day and the longest day of the year.

marcliam
'twas a good ride today, something slightly different....'pioneering' as Maj put it, although largely because for much of the ride we didn't really have a clue where we where and also because the Harry Potter film people seem to have taken over half the forest.

Max - you certainly where steaming it through deerstalker and the labryinth today. I had been going off labyrinth a bit but actually today it rode really well and I loved it again!

Next weekend 'may' be more of a problem than I thought. When I eventually got home I realised that I had yet again snapped a spoke and also the bearings on my rear suspension shock are showing some serious play, I had noticed this before when I had the shock serviced but it seems to have got a whole lot worse... Thought I might just be able to squeeze the bike into the LBS before closing this afternoon but when I phoned them they said they had a 3 week waiting list in the workshop at the moment!!!!!!! So now i'm going to need to drop the bike in to another shop but this may be a problem during the week as I am leaving so early and getting home so late....basically....ar$e!!! banghead.gif

mbElf
Thanks for the route marc - imported fine without any problems into google earth and memory map.

Oh my god - we were cycling very near the DANGER AREA - good thing Captain Brunt was not around - Would have been sitting ducks at the top of that hill with the dug outs. Must go there again under cover. ph34r.gif

I think the danger area where we went was past the clay firing range - the fenced off bit. As for being sitting ducks, I think we had the tactical advantage.
Kerr
Sounds like you had a good ride.

I think ( and dont quote me), but you are ok in the dangerzone if there is no red flag.

anyway... get a t-shirt like this and im sure you will be ok ...

I would'nt mind exploring that sometime but am i right in saying that its actually fenced off. Can't remember for sure.

One thing i will say is that all the bugs must like that area. I am covered in nat bites - in many places icon_redface.gif .
marcliam
Fortunately we weren't actually in the Danger Area and yes it is fenced off pretty comprehensively plus had anything actually been happening we would have heard it (believe me I worked on a project at the Defence Ordnance Disposal School!). Unless of course the Gherka's were training ph34r.gif

P.S. All my local bike shops seem to be running at about 2/3 weeks for workshop bookings so not good news.....

NEW BIKE TIME

Unfortunately if it was this would also mean new place to live, receipt of divorce papers, loss of bo$$ocks by a blunt instrument....you get the picture smile.gif

I have to broach the subject of a new frame tonight. I’ll report back on how not to handle the situation tomorrow.

Gezzza
Just don't tell her just buy it, when it arrives just tell her it was a steal and then promptly pull out that platinum and 1 cart diamond ring and it will be as if the new bike never existed agree.gif

Use my trick... find some way to make it her idea to get new frame.

Managed 4 weeks in alps (snowboarding) and further week in august (mtb) all her idea biggrin.gif

New road bike was hard one to get her to suggest... took some planning. Involved exploding a tyre.

You could suggest something vastly more expensive expecting rejection, but allow her to discover the (cheaper) one you want in a convently open mag or web page. Use your imagination.

... also

Im at swinley tonight for a mad dash ride from about 6:30 till dark.

I have a feeling tonight is going to involve a considerable amount of booze so I’ll not be getting up early tomorrow. I may get out on Sunday morning though.

I've managed to stop drinking so I should be there in the morning. Laters.
huw
Change of plan. It seems I didn't stop drinking early enough and now I have a stinking hangover. I'm going to leave it today and try and head down tomorrow.

Hi Guys,

I'm new to the forum and wouldn't mind tagging along tomorrow if there's any interest.
SinfulHedgehog
I might be up for a morning ride, although I'll have to head back at lunchtime because I've got family stuff planned for the afternoon (seeing as it's father's day and all that). Glad I didn't sign up to ride today, I got home so late last night that I slept until 1pm. rolleyes.gif

Hi Tkboyle,

It's looking increasingly likely because I would like to get out tomorrow. Anyway, we usually meet at the carpark at 8:45am to set off at 9am if that's okay with you? Anyone fancy putting up a ride (I'm lazy)?

Max

biggrin.gif My legs are killing me and i am aching all over. Really pushed myself today and i loved it - Thanks for the master class - much appreciated worship.gif . I might go over to dorking in the morning and ATTACK some more hills. (thanks also for the tubeless stuff info - this will be my first upgrade).

If anyone is thinking of going tomorrow - the trails were in good condition and were fairly dry despite the rain. We absolutely bombed it today and it was pretty grippy.

tkboyle - Welcome to the forum. If there is no one riding this week - there probably will be someone (at least i will) next week and you would be most welcome to join us. We normally meet at the lookout at 8.45 for 9.00 am wagons roll. Have you cycled in swinley before? There are many really good trails and you need someone like DrBike/Vespa/Tuxpoo who know the forest quite well to find them. Hopefully one these guys will be coming next week. Have a nice weekend everyone.

Now for gods sake get some sleep Gezzza before you walk into a tree or something worse.

cheers

Maj

That sounds fine with me. I'll be near a blue clio on a stumpy if you want to track me down.

Thanks for the suggestion and yes reading this monster post suggest they're the people with the knowledge.

With family ties it means that I get rare Sundays or Bank Holidays so most Saturday rides are no go.

Looks like it has been good riding weather today and yesterday so hope y'all have enjoyed it. I won't be riding until at least the weekend after next now and even then July seems to be booked up with a scattering of 'other' things... I suspect it will be a fair few weeks before I can get back into the flow of things.

Enjoy your weekends!

It was good to meet you today, Tony. Sorry I was riding badly, between panting like an asthmatic in a vacuum and throwing myself into the undergrowth, I was a right mess. You're very fit which is great, perhaps I'll put up a better challenge another time (when I'm sober the night before). Still, I managed to navigate us around without getting lost which is something. Thanks for a good ride and hopefully it won't be too long before you pop up this way again. Just keep an eye on the thread and if people start talking of weekends, just let them know that Sunday is your best day - our schedule is pretty impromptu around these parts.

Take it easy,

Max
