The wizards at Swinley (1.28)

Wizards at Swinley

Well spotted DeadKenny

Just a few frames worth anyway. There's more knocking about on various teasers and the DVD of the last film has a preview with them doing the filming and it's clearer there. Whole sequence with a camera on a high wire and them running through the forest. That's where the two big cranes were set up for a while.

That's one part. There are a couple of other locations they've used in the forest on different dates.

Edit: Tiny bit more at 1.21 in the latest trailer too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Su1LOpjvdZ4

8.45 for 9.00 am - we cycle to slowest persons pace - no one gets left behind.

You'll be ok Tim. Max gets drunk, gets a few hours sleep and still manages to get a ride in. Mind you he does take on a greenish complexion now and then and disappear off into the bushes for a quiet moment. You'll be ok.

Did anyone go night riding around swinley tonight?. I know kerr was planning to.

Might not go to Karate and do swinley on thursday instead - have to think about that think.gif

See you saturday.

Yes we went over to swinley, but early enough to not need lights.
Had flu last week, so intended to ride a slower pace.
Didnt in the end... rode like the clappers.

First time ive been over for a few weeks. Its still like summer!!! Very dry, but not quite dusty.

They have some new berms on deerstalker going in and some new tabletops.

Deerstalker has been patched again and is running VERY fast!

Im up for thursday, but weather is looking on the change. Will do a rain check during day on thursday.

Im up for saturday aswell.

Will see. I'm not an early person at the best of times biggrin.gif.

Also got my usual Surrey Hills ride planned that weekend but not sure if it will be Sat or Sun yet and depends if it's an exploring session or a 5 hill epic.

Mine was more:

me: "boll..ks to that!"

Bike is priority. biggrin.gif

Anyway, still a bit unknown about my state Saturday morning. Will see how many beers occur tonight (and there's curry as well). If I do make it I know Swinley pretty well, though I'm sure my routes are different to others. Each time I ride with someone new I end up learning more stuff, not to mention different names for all the classics.

Will be out Sunday in Surrey Hills (around Redlands and Lieth areas probably as there's some event going on around Peaslake).

Hoping to make it. If I'm not there, don't hang around.

Where do you guys park? Just in the Lookout car park?
Stan Leigh
I'll be there in the morning . As above , where about do you park ( Go Ape? ) & how will I know any of you?

Not going tommorow but just in case nobody responds, the general meeting place is hard left as you enter the MAIN car-park. Everybody generally tends to find each other even if you might just have to ask a group of bikers or two if they are the 'MTB Britain' forum lot....

Yeah its been yonks now and i think gezzza was buying whistling.gif unless he's been spending on more bling.

Gezzza, any chance you could bring your hope led lights (i think it was you who had a set). I just wanted to compare them to my new magicshine set - they look very similar.

Sorry I missed out on this, guys. I read about it late last night having driven back home from work, which took a couple of hours, and thought I'd consider it in the morning but was so tired that I slept for eleven hours straight. innocent.gif Hope you had a good ride and I'll catch up with you all soon.
deadkenny
Good ride today. Conditions still good despite the recent rain. Nice to meet you all and see new faces (just got to put faces to forum names now biggrin.gif).

Thanks to our guide too. As I often say, Swinley always throws up surprises and even if you've ridden it for years you can find new bits, especially when riding with someone new who knows different routes to the one you'd take. And every time you can mix it up and make it different.

Anyway, phone managed to keep hold of the GPS signal for a change, so route for you...

Looks like you had a good ride.

Was the jump still at the bomb drop? This threw me in the air gracefully on tuesday last week.

scared the pants off me. By far the biggest air I ever had on a bike.

Im working, but have done this kinda things a few times.

Heres my flatout training loop...

http://www.nostra-casa.co.uk/bikeroutes/OS...p?f=flatout.gpx

1hr42min is my best time biggrin.gif

Only unclipped once. NEVER actually stopped.

Funny thing is when you get back to the carpark, you kinda look at each other and think "is that it? we go home now?"
It can be tempting to go out again and do some more riding.

Im hoping to go to swinley this evening (if rain stops) around 4:30 for a couple of hours.

Was that the other week when you had a pedal strike on a tree stump? very unfortunate, but fair play you never stopped clap.gif

Thing is though, I was two unclips to your none and my Dastardly and Muttley side was thinking of skimming your back wheel to make us even sneaky.gif

LOL! I remember that. I really hammered the stump. wasn't so much as an unclip as a wacked out of clip.

No the gps was another no-unclip evening.
My unclip on the flatout ride was because some pesky MTBers had stopped on the top of deerstalker duel.gif

As I said... 4:30 any takers? No stopping.

I don't do fast. Just down (unless I have no choice but to go up to get to down) biggrin.gif.

Foot bust up though from last ride with the Bike Radar guys. Learnt to my cost the need for sturdy shoes and not cheap trainers. Won't be out this weekend at least.

I'm in for the pootle, I might tear around like an excitable puppy though. It'll give me more time for smoking at the top of the hills.

Ahhh darn, i am in two minds about this, part of me wants a nice relaxing pootle and the other part says screw the pootle, you've got a gorrick race coming up in november and if you want to beat Brian, you better start training think.gif

I think i will go for the sprint and try and beat kerrs time. I'll post a ride up just in case anyone else fancies it but i'll probably see you guys at the cafe. Enjoy

went over last night and had to cut short as was suddenly feeling quite unwell.
This morning woke up coughing and sore throat.
Seems I have picked something up ... AGAIN!

Swinley is now pretty dam muddy.
I recommend getting out the crud catchers and winter tyres.
9 yards was foot deep mud in places. North entrance to stickler is a big mud pit. Stickler berms and bombholes are now full of water, as is the gully on tank traps.

Ho hum.. winter is here
